RocknRolla

Oh god, the previous night I went to see the Midnight Madness' JCVD and didn't realize I had a movie to watch the next morning. I wasn't sure that I was going to stay up during the movie. Good thing that the movie was FOUKIN' AWESOME.

RocknRolla
Directed by Guy Ritchie

There was a slight delay to the beginning of the film. The programmer wanted to wait for Guy Ritchie to introduce the film. Unfortunately he wasn't going to hand around for an Q&A, BOOOOOO.

RocknRolla is much like Guy's previous movies Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. A deal goes down badly that affects many characters. Though there are many weaving storylines you never feel disjoint from the main plot. One difficulty would be to understand their cockney accent, but to be honest that is probably the reason for you to watch this movie.

I enjoyed the character development, especially the story of Handsome Bob. I'll leave that secret for you to find out for yourself. The head boss of the London Crime Scene is an abusive father who is well known for his infamous back hand. Archie is his right hand man, he is the rational thinker of the two. One-Two heads up the Wild Boys, the lovable hoodlums of the picture. And Johnny Quid, Lenny's crack head son who is actually very intelligent. There are many other players in the picture but these would be the main focus. Unfortunately we don't have the usually staples of a Guy Ritchie picture, Vinny Jones and Jason Stathom.

RocknRolla's visuals are astounding its like a crime pulp magazine. Gritty tough guys. Dark broodish allyways. But wonderfully charming city scapes. Its soo pretty. It transitions from seedy bar dives to posh tennis clubs. And none of it seems out of place for this picture.

The climax of the film has a huge twist. The build up for the film has been to resolve who has been sabatoging Lenny's big deal. Of couse you the audience would know, but would you know who the snitch that has been playing everyone? Hehehe I know.

Throughout the movie you could tell that the crowd was enjoying it. It has a clever mix of comedy, drama, and suspense. One thing that is always noticable in UK cinema, well actually just me, is that there isn't alot of action scenes. That isn't necessarily a bad thing because the film was extremely well executed. Its that Hollywood has over rot my brain with Michael Bay explosions and George Lucas special effects that have all become replacements to good story telling. And while I have your attention, Transformers was a horrible fucking movie and the sequel will be the creepy guy in that van that has stolen my childhood.

RocknRolla is a fun movie, and if you don't like it then go enjoy your tapes of Meet the Fockers.
